sight of stillness is an interdisciplinary project exploring the experience of meditation through digital video film, holistic health and neuroscience.

An interdisciplinary exploration, "Sight of Stillness" is a project adventuring through the inner experience and visual landscape of meditation, by way of three complementary threads:

Media arts: visualizations expressed in the form of video poems.
Holistic Health: examined in the course of personal sharing during a series of meditation salons and interpreted by the artist.
Science: studied through the neuro-scientific research of brain activity during deep meditation and expressed visually through digital imagery developed by the artist.
"Sight of Stillness" is a project that exists in the world, simultaneously in four parts:

  • 1. Poetic expression in digital video film, sharing the experience of meditation. (clips will be available).

    2. A series of free public events designed to ignite cross-disciplinary dialogue on meditation:

    Salons hosted over a period of several months (June to November 2002)
    A two-day Symposium event featuring the premiere of Speranza's "Sight of Stillness" digital video film.
    3. A 5-10 minute video piece relating the story of the artist's process, salon and symposium events, as well as a taste of the sensation created in the artist's video poems.

    4. This Web site, which has the all-inclusive purpose of documenting the nature of the project as a whole.
